Equine Assisted Therapies
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a team approach to counseling which integrates emotional, physical, relational and mental elements in the counseling process and incorporates horses. Using the EAGALA model as our foundational modality, we are able to serve individuals of all ages and life experiences such as children with behavioral health concerns, youth at-risk, military service members, trauma survivors, first responders, individuals in recovery and families. Our team of professionals follow a high standards of care for our treatment of client and care of the herd set forth by the nationally recognized EAGALA and PATH Intl. Horses for Heroes
Leg Up Farm is proud to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy for veterans and first responders, helping them work towards a renewed sense of self, developing trust and rebuilding relationships, finding a connection to others, promoting relaxation and improving communication skills. Through evidence-based, equine-assisted practices, our EAGALA Military Designed mental health professional and equine specialist, provide support to veterans, military services members, and first responders in our community.
Equine-Assisted Learning
Equine-Assisted Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine interactions. This is suitable for individuals and groups such as school groups, sports teams, clubs, workplace and leadership teams. Ours providers utilize multiple modalities to meet the needs of each individual or groups including: EAGALA, PATH Intl and Horse Powered Reading.
Horse Powered Reading
Horse Powered Reading® blends social-emotional learning with academic instruction through hands-on, experiential activities with horses. Participants work with horses from the ground, using props and guided interactions to explore reading and math concepts while engaging the mind, body, and emotions—helping build deeper understanding, confidence, and connection to learning. Throughout each session, students (who have completed at least 1st grade) identify learning challenges, reinforce memory through movement, build meaningful social connections with horses and peers, and reflect on their experiences to develop new patterns of learning, all under the guidance of an equine specialist with an educational background.
